David Fitzmaurice, a member of Save the Mid-Minn. River Coalition, which is one of three groups spearheading the protest, said the coalition members are “scoping out the area” for signs, T-shirts, and other materials for the protest. However, Fitzmaurice said the group hasn’t yet come up with a formal plan, including what action they’d take if police attempt to disperse them. “As far as the plan, that’s the next thing to be worked out,” Fitzmaurice said. The coalition, in partnership with the “Mothers of Mid-Minn.” group, is protesting the planned $58.8 million rebuild of the old Columbia Street bridge, which they say will bring harm to wetlands in the Minnesota River valley. Citizens from the coalition’s groups plan to hold a rally against the bridge Wednesday morning at U.S. 61 and state Route 63 in the city of Midway. Fitzmaurice said the coalition members feel their demonstration is an appropriate action since the state Department of Transportation has not asked for any public input on the project. “This is really the state being oblivious to what it’s doing, and they’re acting like we’re just a bunch of people that don’t matter,” Fitzmaurice said. “They’re going to see us out there, and they’re going to hear us, and they’re going to have to deal with us, because we’re going to be out 54b84cb42d
